Detailed Itinerary
Day 1:
Day 1: Transfer to Kisoro – Gateway to Mgahinga
(Road distance 500km & Time travel 8-10 hours)
Experience:
- Early morning departure from Kampala/Entebbe
- Scenic drive through Kabale and the southwestern highlands
- Lunch en route (e.g., Mbarara)
- Arrive in Kisoro in the late evening
- Enjoy panoramic views of rolling hills, terraced farmlands, and roadside Ankole cattle
- Settle in with views of the Virunga Volcanoes
Accommodation: Mid-range lodge in Kisoro or near Mgahinga
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga National Park-Batwa cultural experience
Experience:
- Transfer (30–45 mins) to Ntebeko Visitor Center, park headquarters.
- 06:00 – Early Breakfast & Lodge Departure
- Enjoy a heavy breakfast at your lodge in Kisoro or near the park.
- 07:00 – Arrival & Briefing at Ntebeko Gate
- 08:00 – Begin trek into the Virunga foothills through bamboo forest, montane woodland, and open moorland. Enjoy sightings of birds, golden monkeys, and panoramic views of the Virunga Volcanoes.
- Once the Nyakagezi family is located, spend up to 1 hour with them:
- Begin descent or return trek (can vary depending on gorilla location).
- Reach Ntebeko Visitor Center and receive your Gorilla Trekking Certificate.
Afternoon
- Batwa Trail: cultural walk with Batwa guides through forest caves, traditional hunting demos, music & dance
Expected Experience:
- Face-to-face encounter with endangered mountain gorillas
- Hike through bamboo forests, moorland, and volcano slopes
- Deep connection with conservation and nature
- Duration: 4–8 hours depending on gorilla location
Accommodation: Return to lodge in Kisoro
Day 3: Coffee experience- Nature Walk at Lake Mutanda
Experience:
- Morning community coffee experience – learn planting, harvesting, roasting, brewing & tasting
- Visit a smallholder coffee farm nestled in the hilly villages around Kisoro, often with stunning views of the Virunga Volcanoes.
- Learn how coffee is grown organically in volcanic soil at high altitudes.
- Participate in hand-picking ripe red coffee
Afternoon
Guided nature walk around Lake Mutanda
- Led by a local guide, the walk takes you along winding footpaths, local trails, and lakeside ridges.
- Routes can be tailored for easy, moderate, or more challenging walking preferences.
- Duration ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the chosen route.

Day 4: Cycling to Lake Bunyonyi-Transfer Lake Bunyonyi.
- Morning to early afternoon: guided cycling trip around Kisoro
- Ride along unpaved village roads, winding through banana plantations, potato fields, eucalyptus groves, and lush valleys.
- Trails are mostly off-the-beaten-path, offering a tranquil alternative to vehicle tours.
- Routes can be customized from short 1-hour loops to half-day or full-day adventures (10–30 km).
Late morning
- Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi , travel time is 2 hours , road distance 75 km
- Check in at your lodge , have lunch at the lodge.
- Refresh and relax at the lodge

- Afternoon: Leisure at the lodge or a lakeside picnic
