This scenic 7-day journey takes you from the legendary Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the “Mountains of the Moon”, through the lowland jungles of Semuliki National Park, the primate-rich Kibale Forest, and the savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Along the way, you’ll experience a rare blend of mountain landscapes, hot springs, chimpanzees, forest wildlife, and classic game drives with a chance to spot lions and elephants.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1:Kampala/Entebbe → Rwenzori Foothills (Kasese or Fort Portal)

(Approximately 372 km road about 6–7 hours drive)

Experience:

  • Depart early via Mityana and Mubende
  • Scenic countryside views with optional cultural stops en route
  • Arrive in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains
  • Relax or take a short nature walk near the base
  • Stunning views of the Rwenzori range, rich green hillsides, cultural immersion
  • Overnight: at a hotel in Kasese (accommodation options, limited to Budget or Midrange)

 

Day 2: Rwenzori Foothills Hike or Cultural Tour

Experience:

  • Choose between a half-day guided hike in the Rwenzori foothills (to Nyamwamba Valley or Mahoma Falls) or a Bakonjo cultural experience
  • Breathtaking Mountain scenery, glacial rivers, traditional music, crafts, and storytelling
  • Overnight: Same as Day 1
 
Day 3: Rwenzori → Semuliki National Park

(About 1 hours journey approximately 53 km)

Experience:

  • Transfer to Semuliki National Park, a unique lowland forest
  • Visit the Sempaya Hot Springs (male & female springs)
  • Visit the Batwa community for a cultural experience
  • Nature walks through the rainforest with birding and primate spotting
  • Boiling geysers, pygmy forest communities, red-tailed and black-and-white colobus monkeys, rare forest birds
  • Overnight: at Semuliki (accommodation options, Budget, Midrange or Luxury)
 
Day 4: Semuliki → Kibale Forest National Park

(About 2 hours journey by road, 115 km road distance )

Experience:

  • Transfer to Kibale Forest
  • Afternoon visit to crater lakes or relaxation at the lodge
  • Lush tropical rainforest, scenic crater lakes, peaceful forest lodges
  • Overnight: at Kibale NP (accommodation options: Budget, Midrange or Luxury)
 
Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest

Experience:

  • Morning chimpanzee tracking with a park ranger (2–5 hours depending on group)
  • Optional: Afternoon visit to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for birding and cultural tour
  • Close-up view of chimpanzees in their natural habitat, primate diversity, wetland birds, and authentic village experiences

Day 6: Kibale → Queen Elizabeth National Park

(Approximately 78 km road distance, 2 hours drive journey)

Experience:

  • Drive to Queen Elizabeth NP through scenic crater landscapes
  • Afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel
  • Elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and crocodiles on the channel; birding including fish eagles, pelicans, and kingfishers

Day 7: Kibale → Queen Elizabeth National Park

(Road distance 372 km and between 6 – 7 hours journey)

  • Morning game drive in Kasenyi Plains (possible sightings: lions, Uganda kob, warthogs, buffalo)
  • Sunrise savannah scenes, wildlife encounters, final views of western Uganda’s diverse ecosystem
  • Return drive to Kampala or Entebbe
